Power supplies come in a wide range of sizes and wattages for convenient use in many applications. And sometimes, you need a power supply that takes up little space but still packs a punch. Since compact, high-wattage units are so easy to integrate, they’ve become a reliable option for applications like wireless networks, tele and data communications, industry control systems, distributed power architectures and semiconductor equipment.
An example of this type of power supply is our LPA30 and LPB30 series of DC-DC converters. Let’s take a closer look.
At a glance. With an extra small low profile package of 1.0” x 1.0” x 0.39”, these 30-watt power supplies offer higher wattages than many similarly-sized units. The only difference is that the LPA30 has a 2:1 wide input voltage range, while the LPB30 has a 4:1 wide input voltage range.
In addition, these units include 92 percent efficiency, no minimum load requirement and a six-sided continuous shield. They also meet all UL60950-1, EN60950-1 and IEC60950-1 safety standards.
Both series are available in either single or dual 24-volt models. Another useful feature is an optional trimming feature that lets you adjust the output voltage. For instance, you can trim the single output 15 and 24 volt models by 20 percent to cover an application requiring 18 or 28 volts.
To add versatility, you can use this power supply with positive or negative logic, which allows you to turn the unit on or off. This feature helps increase its lifespan because the power supply only runs when in use.
Pin-for-pin compatibility. In some applications, engineers need to switch out their power supply for a smaller model. And since their boards are always configured with detailed specifications, the only way to find a model with the same pinout. The pin location is in the same place so customers can fit the unit into the board that they’ve already prefabricated. Since they have the same pin configurations, our LWA15, LWA20, LWB15 and LWB20 power supplies can be interchanged.
Low standby power. These power supplies have low standby power that makes startup time easy and increases the unit’s longevity. With this feature, you don’t have to turn off the unit because it doesn’t use any energy when there’s no load.
